Anyone who suffers the hell of peak-period rail commuting from any Wimbledon station may be delighted to hear that our trains will be getting longer. Hurrah!
South West Trains are extending the length of trains that stop at Wimbledon en route to Waterloo. They are also refurbishing the old Eurostar terminus at Waterloo to create a bigger, brighter, easy-to-use station. At the end of 2017 we can expect 30 brand new trains providing 150 extra carriages, which is expected to increase capacity by 30% at peak times. Full details here.
But you don’t get gain without pain, and the bad news is that from August 5-28 next year (2017), services to Wimbledon will be reduced significantly whilst the Waterloo upgrades are carried out.
So if you use our local Haydons Road station, you may find it gets a tad busier in this period. One to think about if you’re already planning next summer’s holiday…
