Yes, really.
We couldn’t believe our eyes when we witnessed a team of scaffolders dismantling the framework that has been holding up the building next door to the new flats and supermarket on Haydons Road, as well as partly blocking the pavement.
You may recall that Merton Council claimed – erroneously – in a reply to a written question by a local resident, that the scaffolding was related to ongoing building work at the Co-Op next door, which had ceased long ago.

The cynics among us may now assume that the usual flytipping will resume along our little neglected shopping parade. But thinking optimistically, perhaps the demise of the scaffolding means the start of better things for The Parade on Haydons Road north?
[The new Co-Op is apparently due to open on October 12, 2017.]
the real cynics amongst us have noticed that there is still a large crack between this building and the one next to it (you can just about see it at gutter level if you magnify your photo) and are fully expecting it to fall down at some point soon…such is the competence of our council.

I hope this relates to the question put to the Council (and which they missed last time round) for
13th September, so they may say due to their sterling work behind the scenes they have arranged for the scaffolding to go. The answer to the question should more fully explain what they have done and what is supposed to happen next eg Council “encourages” owners to get their finger out and develop the Parade, not let it rot.

The question will be passed to the appropriate cabinet member to respond to, and the answer will be published on our website just before the meeting on the 13th September.
