Residents of the Caxton Road area are appealing to Merton Council to bring in matchday parking restrictions to control ‘impossible’ conditions when the AFC Wimbledon stadium is in use.

The petition, which runs until February 19, 2024, has attracted 51 signatures to date. You can find it on the council website here. It states:

“We the undersigned petition the council to introduce and enforce matchday parking restrictions for AFC Wimbledon fixtures on Caxton Road and the other ‘Poets’ Roads. Parking is limited at the best of times on Caxton Road, especially since the new development on the road. During AFC Wimbledon fixtures parking becomes impossible and many residents on the street have to park distant from their homes. We have many young families on Caxton Road and this is problematic.”

Wandsworth Council introduced matchday restrictions as soon as the stadium opened, “in response to the increased parking and traffic pressures that are expected both during and outside match days”.

After initially making no changes to parking controls around the stadium, Merton Council agreed to extend resident-only parking in the Kohat Road area after a consultation in autumn 2020.

This had the knock-on effect of also pushing Sunday parking by visitors to The Apostolic Church at the Haydons Road end of Kohat Road into surrounding streets.

AFC Wimbledon advises supporters that there is limited parking around the stadium and recommends use of public transport.
