Traffic rules have been amended at the Gap Road/Haydons Road junction, permitting traffic to turn right, a manoeuvre that was forbidden previously.
It is hoped that this change will reduce rat running traffic that had been cutting from Gap Road onto Avondale and then Haydon Park or Cromwell Road before turning right onto Haydons Road southbound.
Do let us know if you’ve noticed an improvement (or not!).
If it’s signposted on Gap Road, before Ashcombe Road, it would help…

That’s very good news and drivers will soon get to know

I lived on Gap Rd for 18 years. I think it was allowed after 6pm and on weekends Or something similar . Patrick

Why was this ever NOT a good idea?

hopefully it will help long term…..albeit the real improvement this week seems to have come from the temporary traffic lights at the top of ashcombe road slowing the flow of traffic down.

Would be handy if the large white traffic sign which still indicates that the right turn is banned between certain hours was updated…The road markings have changed, but it still tells drivers you can’t turn right during the busy periods that I’d have thought the change was designed to make a difference…

I didn’t even realise you could now perform a right turn at this junction on an anytime basis, where are the updates and signage to make this clear??? The extremely large (mahoosive) sign that has a no right turn time restriction tells me different. You can’t miss this sign and it clearly states no right turn during peak times… Make it clear to all that you can now do a right turn anytime and I’m sure you will see a decreased flow of traffic through the rat run side roads…!
